"Town and Country . . . "

Hackett of London

Greetings,

Urban or Rural.  Modern or Antique.
Finely edited / Lushly layered.  Polished chrome / Hand-rubbed brass.

Sometimes I feel pulled in both directions.

Past or Future.  Yin / Yang.  Sports car or Jeep.
Sidewalks / Dirt paths.

"Love, a Story . . . "

Fashion designer, Michael Bastian

Greetings,

Just needed some sunshine today.  And who better than the amazing Michael Bastian, and his new collection for Gant, to bring a moment of bright insouciance on a chilly Sunday afternoon.

Enjoy . . .

"Hey Y'all . . . "

Greetings,

Well - there might need to be spankings in order here.  I've been a bad, bad blogger as of late.  Life's been great - but, the time and creativity that I'm usually invest here - has been spent getting several clients ready for parties this week.  (ps.  if you ever REALLY need to get things done at your house - send out invitations for a dinner party.  Or even better - host a wedding at your home.  I'm telling ya - stuff get done.)

And we'll get back to the alphabet tomorrow . . . but, I kinda wanted to touch base and confirm that I'm still amongst the land of the living.

But - there have been several things happening in the last few days that I wanted to share so - in no particular order . . .

Rue Magazine.  Premier issue went live yesterday.  And I'm truly impressed.  A great mix of styles.  A virtual who's who of online personalities.  Fashion.  Shopping.  Parties.

Also LOVED seeing the Spring 2011 Line from Ralph Lauren yesterday.
Beautiful silhouettes.  Wonderful fabrics.  Great style.

And - when all else fails - one can always peruse through the
Spring 2011 men's line from Michael Bastian.

We'll be back with "N" tomorrow - and will feature one of the only two designers in the mix.

Off to work,

"Gotta get shopping . . . "

Fall 2010

Good morning all,

Just a quick update on the "I-have-got-to-get-some-sleep" project for this weekend - this morning my eyes awoke to see that it was 10am. 10am! I haven't slept this late in ages. But, even in my sleep-addled state I had to see if the shots from Michael Bastian's men's show had been posted yet.

During the show Sunday night, I was reading post by Brad Goreski on twitter - and he shared a few fuzzy action shots from the collection. And as soon as I saw those fuchsia corduroys, I knew I HAD to see the whole show. Besides, I have always loved Michael's line.

I first met Michael when he worked for Ralph Lauren years and years ago - before becoming Director of Men's Fashion at Bergdorf Goodman - before starting his own label in 2006. Michael always had such great style! And his clothing line reflects a strong sense of clean-cut, American fashion - mixed with a desire for modern cuts and beautiful textiles.

"We were always talking about things we couldn't find. Chinos,
the perfect skinny button down, the perfect V-neck.
All those classic American things that
you feel are out there - but really aren't."

great trim-cut flannels, classic camel blazer, and tartan footwear. yay.

For the Fall 2010 show from Sunday night - he seems to have gone a bit edgier - and, for me, it gives the collection that same creative energy that residential designers Eric Cohler and Jamie Drake spoke about last week. Letting the contrasts between preppy American and edgier urban style work with each other. And creating something that feels fresh - but still wearable.

love.

Really love.

And seriously, I have to send Michael a present for this one. Not many menswear
designers can send a kilt down the runway.

If Michael's name sound familiar to you - I might be because I featured his apartment several months ago. Have a look.

Well, since the "sleep-in" project went SO well this morning - I'm going to take a stab at the "let's-do-laundry!" project. lol.

Cheers,
tartanscot

"Bigger . . . "

" . . . and better things."

Good evening,

It's been another one of those surfin'-the-internet-sipping-English-tea kinda evenings here at the house . . . and YAY,  I just ran across some images (originally from Domino Magazine) of my old friend Michael Bastian's witty apartment in Manhattan.  Michael and I worked together billions of years ago when I was still at Polo in San Francisco and Michael was in New York with RL Home Collection.

I remember loving Michael's quirky style 10 years ago!  and I've always loved his NY apartment.  There is just such a great mix of flea market finds and 'more serious' furniture and artwork carefully mixed together.  I was so crushed when the Domino website closed, because there used to be the most adorable video of Michael leading a tour through his charming place.

Michael's moved on since those old days and now is a big player in the fashion world with his own men's clothing line.  I always knew he was destined for great things.

I hope everyone has great plans for the weekend.  I have one last concert on Saturday with my chamber choir . . . and then I can hang up my vocal chords for a few months . . . whew . . . lol.
