Oh, sweet and happy weekend, how I have longed for thy company . . . come, walk with me in the garden . . .
These images are from the extraordinary estates of Filoli located just south of San Francisco. The home's interiors may be familiar, as they have been used as the settings for enumerable films, from "Rent" to the opening credits of "Dynasty."
But, its beautiful grounds and gardens seem to be only recognizable to our local residents. One of my dearest friends, Lisa, has served as my own private tour guide on many occasions.
"I think one of the things I like the most about visiting Filoli is the structure of the gardens. Each 'room' is so full of character, from the flowers and trees to the hardscape statues and fountains. So each visit I can delight in the colors of the season within the constance of the overall structure. From each part of the garden, I am tempted to keep exploring by the glimpses into the next 'room.' " . . . Lisa Haley
Fiery blossoms and deep shadow in perfect harmony.
If you are in the bay area, the perfect antidote to our gloomy weather is a marvelous day wondering aimlessly about the grounds of Filoli Estate. The property so named from the credo of its builder, William Bourn - “Fight for a just cause; Love your fellow man; Live a good life.”
'Fi'ght, 'Lo've, 'Li've - "Filoli" - wise advice.
happy weekend,
